My still lifes are very closely linked to everyday life, they are constructed out of it, they have such a philistine materiality that their constituent parts can be listed. At the same time they are challenging in their unrealness. I think that this is a crucial characteristic of the world: to be a construction in which elements can be reassembled; they can be sent into new spheres of meaning; they can be hardwired into a new whole, forming intrinsically new essences.
